Introduction

I recently started working with Murali, a talented songwriter based in London. When I began working with Murali, he had just finished producing five new songs and was looking for a graphic designer to help bring his songs to life with new single artwork and create new branding for his artist, Hazy Views.

The Brief

For this project, there were two initial phases of the design brief. The first phase involved creating a new brand identity for Murali’s brand, Hazy Views, creating a new logo design, colour scheme and typeface. The second phase of the brief involved coming up with design themes and visual motifs for the five songs that were soon to be released, ensuring they stood out on their own but could also work collectively.

The Process

For the first stage of the brief, I asked Murali to answer various questions to help get an idea of precisely what he wanted. In this case, he was looking for a strong brand presence which empowered his listeners but also had a sense of ambiguity because of the name Hazy Views. I then researched and sketched out various potential logo concepts for Hazy Views. With different back and forths between Murali and me, we found a logo design and colour scheme that he was more than happy with!

For the next stage of the brief, I listened to each of the five songs and talked about each with Murali to establish what visual motif Murali wanted for each one. Once we knew that, I had to research and present potential illustration styles that could work. Once we decided on one, I created all the singles in that same style but using different bold colour schemes for each, so they could stand on their own and look like a collection when placed together.
