Crafting a distinctive brand identity and narrative for a whiskey label and packaging, called Elephant Whiskey
Introduction
During my studies in graphic design at Newcastle, one of the most exciting and challenging projects I had the opportunity to work on was creating a brand identity and packaging for a new whiskey product called Elephant Whiskey. This project allowed me to showcase my skills in branding, packaging, and design, as well as my ability to think creatively and strategically for a unique product.
The Brief
The brief for this project required me to establish a compelling brand identity and narrative for Elephant Whiskey. I was tasked with creating a strong and memorable story behind the brand, as well as designing the logo and final packaging for two types of whiskey: a blended whiskey and a twenty-year-aged malt whiskey. The goal was to create an authentic and premium aesthetic that would stand out on the shelves and appeal to whiskey lovers.
The Process
For the project, I wanted to create a unique identity for Elephant Whiskey, so I moved away from the obvious elephant imagery. After researching, I discovered the HMS Elephant, a British navy ship, and decided to base the brand narrative on its history, symbolizing strength, resilience, and adventure. I designed the logo using a compass motif to represent direction and exploration. The packaging featured a luxurious wooden box for the twenty-year-aged whiskey, adding an element of craftsmanship and sophistication to the experience.
