An American ed-tech company is branching out into the UK. In need of a brand refresh to appeal to a UK audience
Introduction
Cloud9UK is an international ed-tech software focusing on students' well-being to improve social-emotional mental health. Focusing on helping students implement reading, writing, listening and speaking activities.
The Brief
The task for this project was to look at how we could improve and modernise the current branding to cater more to the UK audience. We were given free rein to do this by Cloud9World. The only things that needed to remain were the orange colour palette and the Giraffe as part of the logo.
For the overall branding, I wanted to develop a new illustration and iconography style that complimented what they had done in the past but added something more modern and playful. We also wanted to introduce a new colour scheme that worked with the orange and could help differentiate different subject areas.
The Process
To start with, I looked at the logo; the original design had the fun element of the Giraffe but needed more flexibility. This led me to the decision to separate it from a combination logo to an emblem using the Giraffe, which could also work as a wordmark and thicken up the lines on the Giraffe to help it stand out. I also created a motion design using the Giraffe to give it character.
For the illustration and iconography design, I wanted it to be in keeping with the hand-drawn and cartoon style used throughout the Cloud9world brand but ensure consistency throughout. This process involved hand-rendering all the illustrations and icons used on the website and social media channels.
