Improving the illustration design and developing various design materials for print and digital use
Introduction
The Children’s Literature Festival, in partnership with Reading Solutions UK, spearheaded a campaign aimed at providing children from less privileged backgrounds and deprived areas across the North East and UK with free access to literature festivals and books. This initiative sought to inspire a love of reading and provide young readers with the tools and opportunities to explore the world through books.
The Brief
The initial brief was to work with the existing branding to create a variety of design materials for both print and digital formats, including social media content, posters, and pull-up banners. As the project evolved, the scope expanded to include the development of a new illustrated mascot character that would be used consistently across all marketing collateral. This mascot would serve as a recognisable figure representing the festival, creating a friendly and approachable image for the event.
The Process
Before starting the design of digital and print materials, I identified that the existing graphic design felt outdated and needed a refresh. To address this, I created a custom illustration of a book mascot character that would become the focal point of the festival's branding. After finalising the mascot design, I moved on to developing various marketing materials, such as posters, social media content, and pull-up banners, all of which incorporated the new mascot and maintained a consistent visual identity across both print and digital platforms. This approach ensured the festival’s branding was modern, engaging, and aligned with its mission to inspire a love of reading.
