Introduction
I recently worked on the branding and packaging design for Gourmet Moments, a handcrafted popcorn range created by Pop Yum, a North East company based in Gateshead known for its popcorn snack products. The goal was to develop a more indulgent, premium offering, so the visual direction deliberately moved away from the playful style of the existing Pop Yum brand while keeping a subtle connection to the parent identity.
The Brief
The brief was to create a full brand identity, including logo design, colour palette, and typefaces, applied across seven gourmet popcorn flavours. The challenge was to maintain visual consistency for brand recognition while ensuring each flavour was easily distinguishable.
Once the identity was established, the project progressed to packaging design, balancing visual impact with practical considerations such as budget, production constraints, and timelines.
The Process
The logo uses a serif typeface for a sense of sophistication, incorporating the Pop Yum crown to link the new range to the parent brand. The colour palette of black, white, and gold reinforces a premium feel, with each flavour given a distinctive accent colour for easy differentiation.
For packaging, a belly band wrapped around a clear cellophane bag was chosen to highlight the handcrafted nature of the product while keeping production cost-effective.
