Poster and illustration designs for an established local DJ event in Tynemouth
Introduction
Through my work with Backslappers, I have recently worked with Liam and his local DJ event, ATMOS. ATMOS is a monthly free event at El Globo (upstairs Barca) in Tynemouth, offering a platform for DJs to showcase their groovy sounds.
The Brief
The first project I worked on for ATMOS was to create new artwork for an upcoming Halloween event. Liam wanted a design that showcased Halloween but also had a strong disco flair and a lot of energy. The specifics he required were a new poster design and social collateral that he could advertise on his social channels.
The Process
For this brief, I tried to understand what he was looking for by using movement and disco as key directions that could be used. For this, I came up with the concept of skeletons on the dancefloor, being shocked by the energy coming from the disco ball; I really liked this idea and thought it was a good balance of Halloween and disco. I then sketched out a rough sketch of what I was thinking and sent it to Liam for his feedback, which he loved. Once he was happy with the direction, I used Procreate, Illustrator and Photoshop to create the artwork.
Since the first brief, I have continued working with Liam on other projects. I thoroughly enjoyed working with him and getting the opportunity to come up with cool artwork.
"Over the years, I have worked with a handful of graphic designers, but I can confidently say Dan has been the easiest to work with. His ability to take embers of creative inspiration I provide and turn them into a fully fledged artistic blaze from the brief description I give him is invaluable. Not only that, his ability to turn around projects ahead of schedule and be quick and easy to contact if any last-minute alterations are needed.I'd recommend Dan to anyone and look forward to continuously working with him."
